I am a seventh grade teacher at Somerset Valley Middle School in Hartland, Maine. I have been the director of the middle school show chous for 15 years and co-directed at the high school level for 11 years. I am also the director of drama for the school.

Comeau--I thought that Caleb brought up a very good point when he sighted the research from the California school that showed that school uniforms have decreased the violence in their schools. It was certainly hard to rebut evidence like that.
I think that jilly made a good point in saying that you need to prevent volince instead of covering them up with secrity. although i think that jana made good rebutials on the securiity camras as well.
I thought jilly brought up a very good point when we should form a freindship between a staff members if they do that is more then security can ofer.
i thought jilly brought up a goodpoint by saying that cameras are only there to watch, as of a teacher who would be able to act upon the situation.
I think that Jana's rebuttal on cameras was nice, but, if I were her I would have brought up that you can record on what the camera has recorded from the day. Also, you can play back the tape to see their faces. Then, I would have rebuttaled on that by saying, "But it might be too late if there is a weapon involved".
I like what Tyler Hunt said about testing not being goodfor students.
I think Jilly and Dustin brought up a great ponit that by having teachers and other people to talk to about the iusses so they can so things before they happen.
when kayla said it would be good to have school sucurity with a meatle detector at evry door. but later she said locker serches at school beacuse they might have bombs in them but if they have meatle detectors then those bombs cant get in the lockers.
Mrs. Neal I think that Tyler made a good point when he said that students could memorize questions and that would mean that they aren't really learning it. Then you said that is somthing that teachers want and they would be learning it but in a different way!
I think that Jilly had a really good point when she said that cameras can't replace a person because camera's can only watch things that happen; they cannot pervent things.

I thought that Tyler and Sonya did good bringing up lots of good facts such as when they said that lowering the standard would make them have a better grade. They also did good bringing up good rebutals.
I like that Janica said that alot of people died at the Columbia incedent. Atleast I think it was Columbia...... well any way I also thought that Mrs.Neal brang up a good point about the schools. About how her niece went to a new school and learned the exact same thing that she did before she went to that school. The same thing happened to me when I moved to Conneticut from Hawaii!!
I thought Jilly brought up a good point to where nobody could rebutt her comment about how if you create a bond wwith one of the teachers or Ed.tecs, and if you do, that would be way better then school sucurity, because security is a camera and the teachers are people.
janica made a good rubuttal after jilly said that school uniforms can not replace a teacher and they can't do anything for whats going on. Janica made the point that teachers can't be everywhere and do a whole bunch of things at one time.

I think that the point that "students may be great students and really good at projects and at asinments but really bad at testing and not do well at all" by Sonya and Tyler was a very good point.
I sonya fox beleve that the agument betwen jilly and janna that janna won I think janna won because she mensind the fact gun's were beying brought to school alot and she mensind some outher facts.
well emily, what if the teacher doesnt like the student that would like to form a relationship?(im not saying that all tachers are like that, but there are some exceptions.)
im also not saying that i didnt like your comment.

Yes, it is a good point that you should have a friendly relationship with a teacher. But, if you are a kid that gets in trouble often then you may not be backed up by a teacher.
Cody-my rebuttal. He made a really good point but if you form a relationship with the staff then you would probally have to have more then what you already have for them to see every thing. Then when there are twice as many staff members then the schools would be more crowed then they would probally already be.
i thought dustin brought up a very good point when he said when people are treating the kids like criminals like when they get metal detectores,camras,and stuff like that. they force the kids to do crime. he also made a realy good extending rebutal off jilly.and he ended his statement with a graet fact if every one starts to treat all the kids like ones that are good they will start to become bad because they are sick of of being treated bad when there good he also had a good argument the second time when he said it is safer inside of school so then out side of school so there is no need of school security. there arent a lot of deaths that accur in school. then dustin backed it up with a fact one percent of deaths accur either going to school or coming to school. and that is why i choose to vote for dustins team during the presentation thank you.
Janica- I think that that green buisness outfit looked good on Janica, however, I disagree on metal detectors because people have glasses and braces that are metal that the detector would pick up

even with them at every door they still ask them to take of there jackets and backpack and metal stuff. they could still have something in backpack and the thing would never know it because wouldn't even go thought and it would never be found.

i think that cameras do not take the place of teachers but janica brought up that teachers can not be everywhere at once but cameras can.

You know how you sent that thing about what Tyler said? Well I am rebutting it. Sorry but I think you are wrong about how its good to have no testing, Yes it would be wonderful if there was no testing but we need it. Just like Mrs.Neal brang up, Parents need to know!
nikki- my rebuttal- jana's rebuttals are bad becaues the teachers are not always looking at the tv.
hay tyler my rebutel you are right they cant replace a teacher but they can see alot more then a teacher can

jillyann's rebuttle against tyler: Sorry but like I said in my comment that testing people that are not good testers does not show the things they are good at.
I thought that Jana brougt up a good point about the Columbine shooting. She had some good percentages to offer. Great rebuttals.
In the news there was a fire in Greenvile and it spred to over 300 bales of hay and the cause of it is unknown. I thought this article was interesting because it is a mystery.
