Who equals whom?
There were many people in the middle ages whom we can compare to people of today. For example a knight in the middle ages is similar to a person in the military today. Talk about differences and similarities in the way in which they are and were viewed in society. Think about resources they were/are given, the money they made/make, and they respect they have from people in society.

Ok well i had king and in todays society it would probaly be the presedent. 3 things they have in common is they are both very well respected and they make a lot of money. Another is they both have a speacial place to be in. 3 things they dont have in commom are that kings become king by their fathers being kings so they inheartit it but the presedent has 2 be eleceted by the people. Presedents also only has a maimum of 8 years while king is king until they die. Last presedents have limos while kigs have litters.
A jester is like a clown today they arent really respected and they dont make a lot of money. They got to travel a lot and then they both made people laugh.
A noble is like movie star/celeberties. They are/were very respected and they both made a lot of money. They are both given with tons of people to help then out and they would both have private tudors last they both were famous and people new them!!!
I did peasents and serfs and some of the differences are that serfs worked but did not recieve money they recieved clothes and shelter for there hard work, and also the serfs didnt get help like the way homeless people have help, also serfs could never stop being homeless when they were there they were stuck there. But they do have similarities like they both didnt get treated right from other people and they didnt get eat alot. and they werent clean at all they have no way to shower unless the homeless go to a shelter.
-A minstril is similair to todays orchestra players. They earn good money and are very appreciated.The difference is that they play in a group.They play similair but different instruments like the violin or Bass. A minstril also used a
-A Jester is like a stand up comedian. They also Travel. A Jester didnt earn money but a comedian, if there good,earn alot. The Jeester played for the King and Queen and the comedian plays for anyone.
King- President- the king had a lot more power over the people then the president does. also to be a king you had to be born into a rich family thats in government to become king but today if you have the right qualifications you can become president no matter wat kind of backround you come from. They both still basically control the country though.
Lords- people in the government- lords had to born into being rich and powerful but today anyone who has the right qualifications can be in government. they both made laws and helped the country though.
Serfs- Homeless people- serfs got food and some shelter from their masters and homeless people go to homeless shelters to get food so that is the same. serfs were not respected but they were just like that because thats wat they were born into and they did work for NO money. but homeless people sumtimes do have the opportunity to get a job but they dont so ppl dont really respect that either.
A jester entertained a king they are simaler to comedians. there difference was that they didnt tell jokes to everyone they told jokes to the king. they got paid with shelter and food and comedians got paid with money. they both trravel also.
A Falconer back then was a person who trained the birds for hunting for the King etc., a Falconer today would probably be an animal trainer because they got paid to train the birds back then and the animal trainers today probably do as well.
A King would be the President of the United States of America because they are both the leaders of the 'Colony' and they are responsable for the protection of all the citisens of the united states of America.
Apothecary
they were thought of as warlocks because they had all these potions that could help heal wounds (people thought it was by magic) and they had all these herbs and stuff tou help heal you-todays version of an apothecary is like, a doctor or pharmasist because they can make medicines. they are respected because people could go get medicine from them that can cure illnesses.
sewers were respected and highly paid, because they taste tested the food that the king was about to eat. if he ate it and he died, the food was poisoned and he did a good job!-a sewer today is like a person who cooks for a king of another country, because they would have to make sure the king didnt die.
jesters were not respected very well, they were kept around to make their master laugh. they could talk to their master like others couldnt, and they made very crude jokes. they basically went around looking for money and a place to stay.-a jester today is like a clown. for they can make jokes and act stupid like jesters did
Lady- In life today a lady would be a senitor or someone in office. Ladies were not highly looked apon because they did not do much but be a wife to the lord.
Frair- In life today a Frair would be a missonary, someone who devots their lives to serving god and would travel around and prech his word.
a scribe back in the middle ages was someone whom codyed books for his life. today in or mechanical world we can relate a scribe to a commen machine witch is a copy mechine even though we dont pay a copy mechine like in the middle ages people today most buy a copy mechine, a scribe was well known in the middle ages and now you rarely find a house with out a copy machine.
A falconer back in the middle ages trained birds for poeple to use to kill prey for them to eat. Today there are still falconers but they are used to train birds for them self and they can use any bird they want but back in the middle ages you could only use a bird based on you status on the social ladder.
CRAFTSPERSON=MANUFACTUER
A craftsperson in the Roman Times was a person that would dedicate their life to making products for the people to purchase. In todays world a craftsperson would be called a manufactuer. A manufactuer is a person who operates machinery to produce products for the people of America.

in the middle ages a knight was a peson who fought to protect the king and other people. today that would be a soldier. soldiers are people who go adn fight in the war to protect there country. knights and soldiers are both respected by there community.
A Jouster back inthe middle ages is a guy whom made people laghf and told jokes. A Jouster now would be like a cumeadian.
A Jouster then was not respected, he did not get paid that much and he did not get a nich place to stay.
A comedian now performs at place like new york, miami, and cliforina.
The comideans get paid a lot, he has a big house to stay in, and they get a lot of respect.
a scribes job was to copy down latin texts and well-formed front covers in the middle ages. Now in life there are companines that copy millions of books a day. It took a scribe like a whole year to write something like the bible and now it takes a day
a page usally gose to train to become a knight at 7 years old. now these days 7 year olds sit on there buts all day. now we dont have pages we have soilders who fight for us.
a minstril sings all the time in the middle ages for entertainment. the minstril has very little respect not many people like them. today we have rock bands and they make entertainment and they make millions of dollars. they have alot of respect because everyone listens to them.
A priest is similar to a paster. They get paid buy the commmunity and when they were living in the middle ages they had to live in the church now they live in there own house next to the church. They excepted them by there religion and they believe in God and the church had to help people with hard times when the wanted forgiveness and they are respected by there religion and how it helped them and understand there religion. In the middle ages they did not get paid for working with peoples religion.
A king is the rule of all of his land .The king is the head of everything and everyone. I compare him to the president, because he runs the contry and everyone does as he says. A knight is a warrior. The protect the king and fight for land, and protect their land.I compare a knight to a solders because the protect our land, and fight for world peace.

The pilgrims are like tourst that we have around here the pilgrims would go to holy land and are tourst would just come to Maine to see what it looks like and they could be comeing here for a buisness and or for a job and thinks like that pilgims they would go to holdy land to see other people or the would go to other churchs and things like that we do not call them pilgrims any more we call the tourst because the people that come they is just visiting family or on a job interview. i do not think we have pilgrims any more i just think they are called tourst today i do hear people calling people that come to Maien be called pilprms i hear them call them tourst only.

a knight in the middle ages was respected pretty well back then. because they were able to own their own land and made money for protecting the king and the town.
And soldiers today are well respected today.they make a good amount of money and its easy for anyone now to own their own land.
Serfs-Homeless people
serfs in the middleages were really unrespected had no money and homeless people today are looked down upon, have no home, and close to no money.
A noble lady would have to have at least 1 boy. But today they could have girls to girls or boys to boys kids.Noble women could not get married without the lords permission. But today u could get married when ever u want without gettin permission from anyone that is if ur old
enough.Girls were taught
handicraft and dancing.we are taught to learn, read and wright in school.In the middle ages they did'int have a school and we do.

Alchemists-Pharmicisits
Alchemists weren't respected in sociaty because they were considered bad, pharmisits are respected because they give perscriptions. alchemists weren't paid alot of money but they had a little, pharmisists have plenty of money to get along with. both of them have recources to make the medicines they sold.
Falconer-Falconer
Falconers are people who trained birds to kill small animals. falconers from back then were respected good paid people that had alot of resources. the falconers that are in now time are not very well known people but are pretty good respected. they are pretty rich becaus ehtye are able to afford the rescources that they have.
The peasent are like the framers today they both have frams and they both have crops then the crops are rendy to by pick the peasent had to pick them by hand we can do it with mushens and things like at. they had to milk the cows by hand we have mushens and theings like at.
apothecarys and doctors are kind of the same the both give you medicine for things but apothecarys proubly didnt have such good medicine and proubly most of the medicine didnt even work.
a nun is much like todays nuns, because nuns back then, they couldnt talk durring meals and all they did was divoted thier lives to prayer. and the nuns today can talk durring meals and now we have doctors to heal the sick and wounded, when back then the nuns ran most of the hospitals.

An apothecary is simalar to a doctor/surgeon. But doctors have different methods of curing people, doctors are paid more money now then an apothecary was, and apothecaries didn't know how to cure some of the most common sicknesses. But they both were respected. Doctors are paid a lot more then an apothecaries were, doctors are one of the most well-paid jobs now, but an apothecary didn't get as much.
A sewer and a chef aren't that much alike because a sewer lives in the castle, and they were the taste-testers. And a chef is paid better then a sewer was and they don't live in the place where they work.
The lord is like the commander in the army today because they both are the leaders of the army and they both are in charge of there soldiers. But they were differnt because they had swords back then and we have guns today and the soldier made more money today the way back.They were both respected because if they didnt have the soldier then they would not have any body to guard them.

the king would be like the president only back then if the king had a son then his son would be the next king. Now you can only be president for a maximum of 8 years. Last they are different because back in the middle ages the king had more power because now we have the congress and senate.

the king and queen in the middle ages would be like the president and the first lady of today. the king probably made more money back in the middle ages then the president makes today. also thepresident probably has a busier day then the king did. the king was probably very respected in some ways becausethe people knew that if they didn't like the king they would probably be hung. today the president doesn't have as much respect because ha can't just hang people, and a lot of people don't really like some of the decisions he makes.
A person in a tournement are people who take a Long pointed thing and would try to knock somone off their horse. today they could be a National sports player. plus today the sports players are getting $2.5 - $15.5 million and the Knights only got another pieace of land. another big thing is in National sports even if you lose you will still get your contract weage.
An apothecary in the middle ages would be like a pharmasist today. I think that a pharmasist gets paid more than an apothecary in the middle ages. Pharmasists are probably respected more than an apothecary was respected because medicine today is more important than it was back in the middle ages. Pharmasists are given a lot more resources because they don't have to pay for a lot of the things that they have because they are provided by the business they work for.
A knight is like a soldier except that knight has more respect the the soldier do now and was richer then the soldiers. The knights played games to help them get ready for the war but the soldiers don't but they practices.
kings back in the middle ages were the the top person. In charge just like in our sentry Geroge W Bush. They both were very importent Pepole. And they both made a lot of money back in the middle ages. If they wanted to anoce something they would have to plan a meating somewere so pepole in the would would all ways know what was hapining. But now a days they just anoce things on t.v. and radeo stachons also in news papers. Back then they could run as meny turms as they wanted so king even did it there whole life until they died but now a days they can run 2 or 4 turms.
The lady is like the Vice President's Wife. They kind of make the same kind of money because they both live in a nice house. And they were/are respectedquite well.
The falconer today, I think would be someone who trains special animals (seeing-eye dogs or seeing-eye pets or police dogs) the falconer was usually a friend of the king. Now you would need special training to train them. The falconer got pretty good money back then. Now we pay them quite well.

A king was probably more respected than a president because people knew that if they went against the kings orders, they would be in big trouble. A king got paid more than a president.

A jester was a person who made people laugh. today a jester would be a comedian. back then unless a jesters act was real good he wasn't payed real good. today since some comedians are almost like actors they get payed pretty good. Back then jesters weren't respected as well as some of the comedians are today.
2. A pesent was a person who got a small plot of land to farm on. Today a pesent would be beef or dairy Farmer. Back then pesents weren't payed and if they were it wasn't much. today farmers are payed a good amount of money even though farmers could be payed a lot more they were payed a lot more then a pesent. back then pesents didn't get much respect. Today farmers get some respect , they could get more respect but modern day farmers get more respect then a pesent did.

Pages were boys who were trained to be knights. Pages came from rich families. Pages left their homes at the age of 7 or 8. Pages came from noble families and had respect.Soldiers do not leave home at the ages of 7 or 8.Soldiers don't trained to be soldiers at the early ages. Not all soldiers come from rich families. Not all soldiers are respected the same as knights in the middle ages.
Jesters performed for the king and queen in the castle. They were not well respected by the people. They were not paid a lot of money. Jesters might receive food, drink and a place to sleep. Today a stand up comic would be like a jester. They travel around the country. They perform in front of different kinds of people. Some earn a lot of money and have the respect of many people.They can efford to live in expensive houses.
Kings in the middle ages was someone who ruled everything. He was like a President just with more power. Kings were more respected because they had to do everything that the king said for them to do. If the president tells someone to go get him something then the person that he asked will not be as diligent to do it. The king got way more money then the president.
A knight would go into battle like a soilder would today. But a knight was respected more back in the middle ages then a soilder gets today. Knights would get payed alot of money, much more then soiders.
The queen in the middle ages would be the first lady of today, because they are both married to the king/president. the first lady probably gets more money than the queen did because the queen didn't really do anything. another thing that is different is that the queen's main purpose was to give the king a boy. if shedidn't he could haveher hung or he would divorce her. now a days if the first lady doesn't have a boy it really doesn't matter because he probably won't end up being the president.
Kings were not that popular but today the president are very popular. (somtimes) The kingss just got a lot of land and the prsident gets paid more than National sports people.
I THINK THAT MOST PEOPLE IN THE MIDDLE AGES COULD BE COMPARED TO SOMTHING. a chipman you made a good piont but it could also be a printer.
